Grading Procedure

Our school district has updated grading procedures for online learning for the fourth quarter.  I have included the information below for how our middle school grades will be calculated, as well as our high school credit courses.  The following revisions to Student Progression for Palm Beach County Schools that relate to grading will be in effect for the remainder of this school year:

Middle School Credit

1. Full Year Middle School Grades:

  • No change to the calculation of full year grades for middle school courses.
  •  Civics will not have an EOC result calculated as 30% of the grade.  The final course grade will be an average of the four quarters.
  • Students who are absent more than 10% of the marking period will not be required to demonstrate mastery by passing a quarterly assessment for quarters 3 and/or 4.

2. High School Credit Courses:

  • High School credit courses offered in middle schools will follow all of the rules and exemptions outlined in the High School Credit section of this document.

High School Credit:

Semester 2 Grades:

  •  All students will be exempt from taking a second semester exam for high school credit courses.  The 2nd semester grade will be calculated using only the 3rd and 4th nine weeks grade (50% each). Grades will be rounded up to the nearest letter grade (e.g. A/B will average to an A).
  • The rule requiring students to pass the semester exam when over the absence limit in high school credit courses in order to receive credit for the class, has been waived for 2nd semester.

Full Year Grades from Courses with an EOC:

High School EOC Courses (Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, and US History) will not have an EOC result calculated as 30% of the grade.  The final grade for High School EOC courses will be calculated as follows.

  • Q1 - 22%
  • Q2 - 22%
  • Semester 1 Exam - 12%
  • Q3 - 22% Q4 - 22%

The rule requiring students to pass the 4th quarter when over the absence limit in high school EOC courses in order to receive credit, has been waived for SY20.

High school credit courses still will award credit based on all of the above grading rules.
